Originally the Gem was going to be a Barn Door Kite.
However!.. I got bored with the design and threw it on the floor.
It spun round and landed upside down. I looked at the floor and I liked what I saw.
The original spar layout inverted would not produce a stable lifting surface. So I decide to use some of the techniques I had learnt from the noodle kites on this frame.
The top and bottom spars are incased in pockets which are then suspended, via loops and static lines, from the center spar. A prussic knot then tensions the whole assembly and sail.
Pretty cool!
A little bowing of the cross spars and there you are!
Great for low winds.
